RSS Mobile Content Feeds on AvantGo

AvantGo, an online and offline mobile content provider, released their version of RSS for mobile content. Needless to say, I was very impressed of how easy it is to copy, paste and download RSS feeds to my PDA. The feeds integrate nicely with AvantGo's mobile content software. Once you've added your feed to your list of content, the feeds automatically update with each hotsync.

One item missing from the RSS feeds is advertising. As the popularity of RSS on mobile grows, so to will the push for advertising on this medium. With no real clear standards for RSS marketing in mobile, we're likely to see many trial and error attempts by major content providers.

Branding Changes and Challenges at Adobe

One of my more recent observations is the final deal closing and rebranding of Macromedia's products under the Adobe name. While this merger may be a "no brainer" from a business standpoint, there are those in the web creative community that might be worried about their Macromedia products that are "up in the air".

More than likely new product development for Freehand will end. Freehand is a great illustration/layout tool and had it's strong points, but really never fit in as a development tool.

GoLive ... someone please tell me why this tool still exists. A poor excuse for Dreamweaver.

Design Bundle - Bundling Flash with print design tools? This seems a bit odd, not sure what Adobe's strategy is here. Maybe a transition to the web tools they offer? A great idea if they can pull people into their web suite.

We'll have to keep an eye on what happens over at Adobe, with the future of design software now in their hands.
